UD’s Jason Nerys wins ECAC Robbins Award

Jason Nerys
9:41 a.m., Sept. 24, 2004--Jason Nerys, an All-American offensive lineman who helped lead the University of Delaware football team to the 2003 NCAA Division I-AA national championship, is one of six men and women who will be presented the Eastern College Athletic Conference Robbins Scholar-Athletes Award during ceremonies Sunday, Sept. 26, in Cape Cod, Mass.

The Robbins Award is presented for outstanding accomplishments on the playing field and in the classroom. Nerys enjoyed an outstanding career as a Fightin’ Blue Hen football player and earned a degree in fitness management in May, graduating with a grade point average of 3.4. Currently, he is a member of the practice squad with the New York Jets.

Nerys was a four-year letter winner for UD and in 2003 was a consensus first team All-American. He was named to the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference team three times and to the College Sports Information Directors of America District 2 All-Academic second team twice. In addition, he earned the 2003 National Association of College Directors of Athletics Scholar-Athlete Award and was a nominee for the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame postgraduate scholarship.

While at UD, Nerys was active as a student volunteer with Special Olympics Delaware.

Other Robbins Award winners are Meghan Ramsey of Lafayette College, James Newman of Assumption College, Kerri Stone of the College of St. Rose, Paul Whiting of Amherst College and Amanda Laytham of Ithaca College.
