UD men’s tennis team wins doubles titles

9:16 a.m., Sept. 21, 2004--The University of Delaware men's tennis team picked up doubles titles in both the Flight B and Flight D divisions to highlight action at the season-opening Swarthmore College Invitational last weekend.

Senior John Tully and junior Josh Ditman captured the Flight B doubles title with an 8-4 win over Temple's Matt Struble and Elad Ziu, while junior Adam Liebman and sophomore Adam Freedenberg posted an 8-2 win over UD teammates junior Philip Wayne and freshman Michael Fehrs in the Flight D doubles championship.

Three UD players finished second in singles play. Tully went 3-1 in Flight A singles, falling in the finals to Swarthmore's Jon Reiss; freshman Jason Hanschman went 3-1 in Flight C singles, falling in the finals to Bucknell's John Lashnits; and Fehrs went 3-1 in Flight D singles, falling in the finals to Bucknell's Gareet Neff.

In all, UD players posted a combined record of 8-1 in doubles play and 18-9 in singles action in the nonscoring event. The Fightin’ Blue Hens will return to action at home against Villanova on Thursday, Sept. 30.
