Michael Johnson lecture set Sept. 30

12:19 p.m., Sept. 28, 2004--Michael Johnson, an historian best known for his research on the American Civil War era, is this year’s guest speaker at UD’s Marion Gargan Memorial Lecture, set for 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 30, in 125 Clayton Hall.

Johnson’s lecture, “The Strange Career of Slave Rebellion in North America,” will focus on the Denmark Vesey affair, which is widely accepted as the largest slave rebellion plot in American history.

A history professor at Johns Hopkins University, Johnson concentrates his research on the social and political history of America, with particular emphasis on the years from 1790-1870.

The Marion Gargan Memorial Lecture is free and open to the public. For more information, call (302) 831-8413.
