Sept. 16 talk kicks off Hispanic Heritage Month

2:53 p.m., Sept. 14, 2004--A lecture at 5 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 16, in the Multipurpose Room at the Trabant University Center will kick off Hispanic Heritage Month and will feature guest speaker Maria Echaveste.

Echaveste, who served as former deputy chief of staff for President Bill Clinton, will address the growing influence of Hispanic Americans in the United States.

Under the Clinton administration, Echaveste assisted with immigration, education, civil rights, bankruptcy and trade issues. She currently is an attorney and a frequent guest on To The Contrary, PBS’ all-female news analysis series.

The lecture is cosponsored by the Latino and Latin American Heritage Office and the Center for Black Culture. For more information, call (302) 831-0229.
