Atlantic 10 honors Delawares Haugabrook 9:06 a.m., Sept. 14, 2004--University of Delaware senior cornerback Sidney Haugabrook has been honored by the Atlantic 10 Football Conference as the Special Teams Player of the Week for his play in Saturday's 21-17 victory over Towson University. Haugabrook was one of four players honored by the conference. New Hampshire quarterback Ricky Santos, who led the Wildcats to a 35-24 victory over Rutgers, was named both the Player of the Week and the Rookie of the Week, while junior cornerback Allante Harrison of Towson, who had three interceptions against the Fightin Blue Hens, was named the Defensive Player of the Week. Haugabrook sparked the Hens when he returned a punt 80 yards for a touchdown to tie the score at 7-7 midway through the third quarter. Haugabrook also returned a punt 80 yards for a touchdown in last year's win over Maine. Haugabrook returned two kickoffs for 54 yards against Towson and now is averaging 47.7 yards per punt return, second in NCAA Division I-AA, and 24.2 yards per kickoff return. In addition to the returns, Haugabrook also recorded four tackles and broke up a pass. He raised his career tackle total to 248, breaking the all-time UD record for most tackles by a cornerback held by former NFL player Tim Jacobs, who had 246 in 1989-92. Haugabrook, a pre-season All-American and candidate for the Buck Buchanan Award as Division I-AAs top defensive player, started his 40th straight game against Towson. UD (1-1, 1-0 Atlantic 10), which moved up one spot to No. 6 in this week's Sports Network Top 25 poll, will host West Chester University Saturday at 7 p.m. in Delaware Stadium.
