UD Greeks thanked for charitable contributions

3:56 p.m., July 26, 2004--Over the past year, UD’s Panhellenic Council and the Greek community donated $2,695 to the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware, which provides a place to stay for families of children in local hospitals. The funds were raised during Greek Community events during the academic year.

According to Pamela Cornforth, executive director of the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware, more than 1,772 families last year were helped by contributions received from UD students and other contributors. The house has been operating at close to 82 percent occupancy and has not been able to accommodate all the families who need a place to stay, she said. The additional funds will allow the house to assist more families in crisis.

Over the next 12 months, the house, located on Rockland Road in Wilmington, will expand and add 23 bedrooms and new common areas to meet the growing needs of families served by local hospitals, Cornforth said.
