UD field hockey team defeats Rutgers 1-0

9:48 a.m., Sept. 30, 2004--Sophomore Amanda Warrington scored the only goal of the game to lead the University of Delaware field hockey team to a 1-0 victory over Rutgers University on Wednesday in New Brunswick, N.J.

Warrington's goal came at 4:12 off an assist by Lauren Carr. Warrington has now scored in each of the last three games for the Hens.

UD goalkeeper Megan Allen stopped six shots as the Hens notched their fifth shutout of the season.

UD, which is ranked No. 15 in the most recent National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll, improved to 6-4 on the season.

The Hens will open Colonial Athletic Association play with two road games. They will face James Madison University at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 1, and Virginia Commonwealth University at 1 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 3. James Madison is 2-9 on the season and Virginia Commonwealth is 7-2.
