Delaware Transportation Festival set Sept. 18
1:47 p.m., Sept. 15, 2004--The Delaware Department of Transportation will present the 16th annual Delaware Transportation Festival at this years DuPont RiverFest, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 18, at the Amtrak Station and Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park in downtown Wilmington.
Those attending will be able to ride the Wilmington & Western Railroads antique steam locomotive and railroad cars from the Norfolk Southern rail line. Also on display will be DelDOTs 16 wheelers and highway construction machinery, a childrens mini-train, the Seaway Human Transporter and other transportation vehicles. The daylong festival also will also showcase changes taking place along Wilmington's waterfront, including upgrades to the Amtrak facility.
Sponsored by DelDOT and DART First State, in cooperation with Amtrak, entrance to the Transportation Festival is free, but there is an entrance fee to RiverFest of $3 for individuals over 16. Proceeds benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of Delaware.
Along with transportation-related events, the RiverFest features a host of activities, including Wilmington Trust Children's Entertainment, water taxi rides, live music and youth group performances on the J.P. Morgan Chase Stage of Harmony, refreshments at the Café Court, balloon artists, jugglers, strolling magicians, DuPonts Moe the Robot and Fun with Science, Delaware Children's Theatre, the Lois Young puppet show, the magical illusions of Kyle and Kelly and Beatlemania, a 'You're My Idol' contest and RiverFest live at Kahunaville's outdoor stage. Admission for the 'You're My Idol' contest and RiverFest Live is $5 for individuals under 16 or $2 with DuPont RiverFest entrance wristband.

Parking will be available at no cost to festival visitors at Frawley Stadium's outfield parking lot. DART First State will provide free transportation between the satellite parking lots and the festival.
In the event of heavy rain or storm, all outdoor activities will be canceled. Activities inside the Amtrak Station or Kahunaville may still be held. For information on the day of the event, call (302) 658-1870.
