Center for Disabilities Studies to screen new videos

2:23 p.m., Aug. 23, 2004--UD’s Center for Disabilities Studies will premiere two videos from 3-5 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 24, in Clayton Hall. Designed to help recruit and retain workers who provide direct services to persons with disabilities in residential and day programs, the videos were produced under a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Direct support professionals and organizations that provide services to individuals with psychiatric, cognitive, physical and developmental disabilities throughout the United States face various challenges,” according to Renee Settles-Bean, coordinator of the center’s Workforce Recruitment and Retention Project. “The job preview video captures the unique relationship that must exist between the direct support professional and the individual with a disability, reinforcing the project’s premise that shared values—respect, honesty, dedication, etc.—are critical not only to delivering quality care, but in promoting job fulfillment and satisfaction.”
