Bit O’ Rhythm, Delaware Steel perform Oct. 2

8:47 a.m., Sept. 30, 2004--UD’s Department of Music presents a special homecoming concert featuring Bit O’ Rhythm and Delaware Steel at 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 2, in the Loudis Recital Hall of the Amy E. du Pont Music Building.

Performing together for more than 20 years, Linda Henderson, piano, and xylophonist Harvey Price, assistant professor of music, form the ragtime and early jazz duo, Bit O’ Rhythm. The duo specializes in the music of American composers from the early part of the 20th Century, such as George Hamilton Green, Scott Joplin and George Gershwin. Bit O’ Rhythm has performed recently Israel and at Penn State, Spoleto USA, University of Seattle, Longwood Gardens and the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia.

Delaware Steel, UD’s premier steel band, is made up of students and local professional pan players. The band performs popular standards as well as “panorama style” compositions written expressly for steel orchestra. The band performed in May at the Virginia Beach Caribbean Music Festival.

Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and $3 for students. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance at the Trabant University Center or Bob Carpenter Center box offices.
