High water closes some local roads

4:41 p.m., July 12, 2004--Delaware’s Department of Transportation advises motorists that a number of roads in northern New Castle County have been closed this afternoon due to high water. Today's heavy rains have forced the closures for safety reasons.

Motorists are advised to use caution in all low-lying areas where it is known that heavy rains can produce standing water and unsafe conditions. Locally heavy downpours are expected to continue throughout the afternoon, which could cause more local roads to be closed until high water has receded.

Current road closures include:

  • Naamans Road at PhiladelphiaPike;
  • Philadelphia Pike at Marsh Road;
  • Fox Den Road, from Polly Drummond Road to Red Mill Road;
  • Rockland Road at Ronald McDonald House;
  • Snuff Mill between Old Kennett Pike & Route 52 for a downed tree;
  • Old Ogletown Road at the Avon railroad overpass; and
  • Gov. Printz Boulevard between Edgemoor Road and Lea Boulevard.
