Problem-based learning workshop series set 2:45 p.m., Aug. 31, 2004--Students learnand retain what theyve learneda lot better if they can put their knowledge into a context, mold it to their experiences and explore it from different angles. Beginning Sept. 10, a 12-week workshop, Problem-Based Learning: From Ideas to Solutions through Communication, will meet from 1:30-4 p.m., Fridays, in 110 Memorial Hall, to lead UD faculty and teaching assistants through exercises designed to enhance effective, problem-based instruction. The first half of each session, which will take participants through problem-based learning (PBL) exercises, will summarize key elements of problem-based learning. The second half of each session will focus on plans and materials needed for integrating PBL into curricula. The workshop also will stress how technology can support PBL, and leaders will suggest ways that PBL can be effectively integrated into classrooms. Faculty from all disciplines and departments are welcome and complimentary snacks and drinks will be provided. In addition, UD faculty members may qualify for $1,000 in funding to support curricular innovation. For more information on the workshop series, visit [www.udel.edu/inst/fall2004/].
