GIS workshops set

3:32 p.m., Aug. 30, 2004--Faculty, staff and students may attend free sessions to learn to use Geographic Information Systems (GIS)—the rapidly growing technology used to track the spread of SARS and to map the movements of the Beltway Sniper.

UD’s Research & Data Management Services offers workshops for those who want to use ArcGIS software to supplement reports or grant requests or to model, analyze or map information. GIS software can turn reams of statistics into an easy-to-read map.

For more information about GIS at UD, visit [http://www.udel.edu/gis/].

The first three workshops are:

  • Using ArcSDE and ArcIMS to Support Teaching at UD, scheduled from 9-11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 2, in 005 Penny Hall, the GIS classroom.
  • ArcGIS Introduction to ArcView 9, scheduled from 2-4:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 7, in 056 Morris Library, Sussman Room.
  • ArcGIS9: Tips and Tricks, scheduled 9 a.m.-noon, Wednesday, Oct. 13, in 005 Penny Hall.

Anyone with a valid UD ID card can register for a session. To register, go to the UD Professional Development Calendar web page at [http://present.smith.udel.edu/calendar/].
