Fightin Blue Hens sign 4 mens soccer recruits 3:07 p.m., Feb. 24, 2005--Four high school seniors have signed NCAA national letters of intent to compete for the University of Delaware men's soccer team beginning this fall, Fightin Blue Hens Head Coach Marc Samonisky announced Thursday. The class includes midfielder/forward Bill Paugh of Parkesburg, Pa., defender Charles Hack of Staten Island, N.Y., midfielder Eric Shadoff of Woodstock, Md., and goalkeeper Chris Jones of Sykesville, Md. "We are extremely excited with the signings of these young men," Samonisky, who will enter his 13th season as head coach in 2005, said. "We are confident these players will make an immediate impact. It's a positive step toward being a winning team in this conference." The Colonial Athletic Association is a powerful conference in mens soccer and last season sent three teams to the NCAA championship tournament. Paugh was a four-year varsity player, first at Octorara High School and later at Lancaster Catholic High School. During his two years at Lancaster Catholic, he was selected first team All-Lancaster Lebanon and led the section in scoring as a junior and in assists as a senior. He was named the teams most valuable player each of his two seasons at Lancaster Catholic. Paugh played club soccer for F.C. Delco and was in the Eastern Pennsylvania Olympic Development Program in 2002-04. Hack had a four-year varsity career at Curtis High School, starting all four seasons and being named captain of the team his junior and senior years. He was selected Long Island Newsday All-Borough last fall and is a three-time member of the Staten Island High School Coaches' All-Star team. Hack also plays club soccer for F.C. Richmond and has served as the teams captain. Shadoff had an outstanding senior year at Mount Hebron High School, where he was named first team All-Maryland, All-Metro and All-County after transferring from perennial powerhouse McDonough following his junior year. Shadoff also participated in Maryland's Olympic Development Team from 1997-2004 and was named to the All-Region team in 2000 and 2001. He played club soccer for the Shakedowns. Jones was a three-year starter in goal at Century High School and, as captain, led the team to the Maryland state AA championship in 2003. He set a school record for career save percentage (.901) and posted shutouts in eight games as a senior. He was named Carroll County Player of the Year and was selected second team All-Metro. Jones was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-South first team and was an NSCAA All-America nominee. He participated in Maryland's Olympic Development Program from 2001-03. Jones also was captain of the Century High indoor track and field team as a high jumper and a hurdler.
