Delaware’s Mike Slattery is Academic All-District

UD’s Mike Slattery
9:10 a.m., Feb. 18, 2005--University of Delaware senior point guard Mike Slattery has been named a first team selection to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District men’s basketball squad.

Slattery will now be placed on the national Academic All-America ballot, with the results to be announced March 2. Other members of the All-District first team are Tyler Azzarelli of Monmouth University, Garrett Farha of St. Francis University, Johannes Herber of the University of West Virginia and Chet Stachitas of St. Joseph's University.

Slattery was named to the All-District first team for the second straight year and currently has a 3.38 grade point average in sports management. In addition to the CoSIDA honors, he has twice been named to the Colonial Athletic Association All-Academic team.

Slattery currently ranks second in UD history and fourth in CAA history with 583 career assists. He could become the first player in CAA history to record 1,000 career points and 600 career assists.

This season Slattery leads the CAA and is tied for ninth in NCAA Division I with 6.9 assists per game. He will play the final home game of his career against Hofstra University at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 19, at the Bob Carpenter Sports/Convocation Center.

CoSIDA District II consists of all NCAA Division I schools in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the District of Columbia. The All-Academic team is sponsored by ESPN The Magazine.
