UD center offers evaluations, psychotherapy

Belmont Hall
11:01 a.m., Feb. 15, 2005--The University of Delaware Psychological Services Training Center, located in Belmont Hall at 203 West Main St. in Newark, provides evaluations and psychotherapy for children, families and adults on campus and in the community.

The center offers counseling for problems related to anxiety, depression, personal loss, childhood and adolescent behavior problems and family conflicts, and its services are available to the general public, as well as faculty, staff and community residents.

The center also works with local school districts to provide psychological evaluations for young people in kindergarten through 12th grade. It can provide evaluations for intelligence, learning disabilities and emotional/behavioral problems.

Samuel H. Blumberg, director, said the center serves as both a training site for graduate-level students and as a mental health clinic.

Staff includes doctoral students in UD’s clinical psychology program, who work under the supervision of Blumberg and faculty members from UD’s Department of Psychology.

Fees for therapy are based on a sliding scale, depending on the number of people in the family and yearly income, and range from $5-$20 per session.

The center uses evidence-based therapies, or those therapies that are empirically validated as effective treatments. Such treatments are generally short term, lasting 10-20 sessions, depending on the disorder.
