Credit union volunteer honored
He first volunteered as an alternate to the credit unions credit committee, then served as a member and later chairperson of the committee before becoming FCU president. After stepping down as president, he will continue to serve as a member of the board of directors, a member of the financial advisory committee and as alternate to the credit committee. Under Palmers leadership, U-DEL FCU has grown, and, in the past five years, dollar volume of loans more than doubled to almost $10 million, transforming the organization from a small to mid-size credit union, according to Kathy Faries, credit union manager. Palmer was instrumental in making available attractive rates and a variety of savings plans to meet members needs. He also supported improving technology, such as the Telephone Teller, Faries said. The U-DEL FCU is a member-owned, cooperative, not-for-profit organization, which depends on volunteers to serve on committees and the board of directors. Palmer is the perfect example of a volunteer who has made a positive contribution to the future of U-DEL FCU, Faries said. Volunteering for your credit union is a great way to expand your skills while helping others, she said.
