11:19 a.m., Feb. 11, 2005--A roundup of recent news items about UD, its faculty, staff and alumni.

Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in the Feb. 11 and Feb. 10 issues of the San Francisco Chronicle concerning the resignation of embattled chief executive officer Carly Fiorina from Hewlett-Packard. Elson also was quoted in the Feb. 10 Newsday and St. Paul Pioneer-Press concerning the Walt Disney Co. annual meeting.

Kimmie Meissner, a member of the University of Delaware Figure Skating Club and U.S. National bronze medalist, appeared on NBC’s Today show on Feb. 10. She taught host Katie Couric a few basic skating techniques.

John Antil, associate professor of business administration, was quoted Feb. 10 in a column on the CNN web site concerning reluctance by major advertisers to use baseball players in endorsements as a result of the growing steroid scandal.

Peter Williams, professor of art, was recognized in a Feb. 10 Artnet web site review of the National Black Fine Art Show in New York City. Artist and critic John Drury wrote, “His works are characterized by adept paint handling and a sophisticated sense of color.”
