History scholarship applications sought

4:40 p.m., Feb. 8, 2005--The Department of History invites applications for the William E. Meakin Memorial Award for distinguished academic performance and community service. The winner will receive a $500 scholarship.

Applicants should be junior or senior history majors at UD in the 2004-05 academic year with a GPA of 3.0 or above. Students may also nominate other students for the award.

Interested students should submit:

  • A paper including their name, address, phone number, classification, overall GPA, history GPA and expected graduation date;
  • A copy of their University transcript (unofficial copies are acceptable);
  • A letter of application, including a record of University or community service; and
  • Two letters of recommendation, one from a History Department faculty member, and one from a person familiar with the community service performed.

This information should be addressed to Prof. Daniel Callahan and sent to Cathy DiTommasso, Department of History, by Friday, March 4.
