Energy policy colloquium set Feb. 24

Harris B. McDowell III
5 p.m., Feb. 21, 2005--What does it take to get good energy policy passed?

Harris B. McDowell III, majority leader of the Delaware State Senate, will talk about the passage of major energy and environmental policy legislation in Delaware as the first speaker in the spring Energy and Environmental Policy Colloquium series from noon to 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 24, in the Ewing Room of the Perkins Student Center.

McDowell, D-Wilmington, has been a state representative for 29 years and has helped pass some of Delaware’s major energy and environmental policy legislation. He was instrumental in the creation of the Delaware Energy Office and authored the bill creating Delaware’s public advocate representing residential and small business concerns in energy, water, communications and utility issues. McDowell helped to create the Delaware Green Energy Fund that supports the use of solar and other renewable energy options and attracts environmental friendly technology companies to Delaware, and he is working on tax reductions for companies that invest in sustainable transportation and energy strategies.

The colloquium is open to the UD community, and lunch will be provided.
