Blue Hen baseball team wins two at Richmond

10:48 a.m., Feb. 28, 2005--The University of Delaware baseball team won two of three games in a weekend series at the University of Richmond, splitting a doubleheader on Saturday and winning 7-0 on Sunday.

In Sunday’s game, pitchers Scott Rambo and Mitch Heckert combined for the shutout. UD’s Kelly Buber had two hits and extended his hitting streak to five games, while center fielder Brandon Menchaca had two runs batted in, scored a run and stole three bases. Left fielder Bryan Hagerich scored two runs and also stole three bases.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens won the opening game of the series 7-3 on Saturday, with freshman pitcher Mike McGuire earning the win. Third baseman Ryan Graham and shortstop Todd Davidson had two hits each and Buber smashed his first home run of the season.

Richmond won the Saturday nightcap 2-1, with UD pitcher Jason Rogers taking the loss. Buber and right fielder Dave Harden had two hits each. Hagerich scored the lone run for the Hens on a double by designated hitter Dan Kozek.

UD is now 2-3 on the season. The Hens are scheduled to return to action at George Washington University at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 2, with the first home game of the season against St. Joseph’s University at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, March 3.
