Teaching, advising excellence nominations sought

5 p.m., Feb. 11, 2005--The deadline for UD students, alumni and employees to nominate a faculty member or teaching assistant for UD’s Excellence in Teaching and Undergraduate Advising Awards is Tuesday, March 1.

Each year, the University selects a limited number of
instructors and undergraduate advisers whom students have nominated to be rewarded for excellence in mentorship, teaching and advising. The awards identify, honor and encourage faculty excellence at UD.

The teaching award is given to a full-time UD faculty member or a currently enrolled graduate student who has full responsibility for teaching a course or laboratory section. The nominee may teach either undergraduate, graduate students or both and must not have won the award in the last 10 years. The teaching honor includes a $5,000 award for faculty recipients and their portraits hang in Morris Library for five years. Teaching assistants receive $1,000.

The advising award is for full-time faculty members who advise undergraduate students in some capacity and includes a $2,500 award and a brick inscribed with the recipient's name is placed in Mentor's Circle.

The nomination process is quick, easy and online. For more details and to nominate a teacher or adviser who demonstrates excellence, visit the faculty excellence awards web site at [www.udel.edu/teachingawards].
