UD’s Malcom, Slattery are candidates for award

9:54 a.m., Feb. 23, 2005--Two University of Delaware basketball players, seniors Tiara Malcom and Mike Slattery, are among 61 players to watch nationwide as the Albuquerque (N.M.) Convention and Visitors Bureau prepares to name the third annual Collegiate Basketball Award of Excellence, sponsored by Creamland Dairies.

Malcom is among 36 players on the list of eligible women, and Slattery is among 25 players on the men’s list. UD is among just nine NCAA Division I schools to have players on both the women’s and men’s watch lists.

The award honors college seniors for athletic and academic achievement, as well as community involvement. The lists of nominees will be narrowed to 10 semifinalists on March 1, and the winners will be honored during a special event April 12 in Albuquerque.
