Four events to celebrate Asian heritage 2:18 p.m., Feb. 16, 2005--Four events that celebrate Asian heritage and culture are set for the spring semester. The first, Day of Remembrance, is set for 5 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 23, in Multipurpose Rooms A, B and C in the Trabant University Center. A somber look back at the unjust internment of Japanese Americans during World War II, the event will include an illustrated lecture by Peter Feng, UD professor of English, on the history of the internment and its lasting legacy on U.S. civil rights. Fengs lecture will be accompanied by musical selections chosen and performed on the piano by Julie Nishimura, UD professor of music. The second, an Asian Heritage Potluck Dinner, is set for 5 p.m., Thursday, March 24, in the Visitors Center Annex. A social and networking event, the dinner is geared especially for members of UDs Asian community. Attendees are asked to bring a dish to share and to come with ideas for discussion. The third, Musical & Cultural Traits of Chinese Music, is set for 8 p.m., Saturday, April 16, in the Loudis Recital Hall of the Amy E. duPont Music Building. This multicultural and multimedia event will be hosted by Xiang Gao, UD professor of music, and will include guest artists from famed cellist Yo-Yo Mas Silk Road Project--Wu Tong, Chinese wind instruments virtuoso, and Hui Li, Chinese plucked-string instruments virtuoso. The fourth and final event, an Asian Heritage Month Lecture, is set for 5 p.m., Tuesday, May 3, in Room 115, Purnell Hall. Featuring poet, playwright, nonfiction writer and performance artist, David Mura, the lecture, How We Talk (or Dont Talk) About Race: Identity Changing in America, will explore cultural differences and misconceptions. All four events are sponsored by the Office of Affirmative Action and Multicultural Programs, the Asian Heritage Council and the Asian American Pacific Islander Caucus.
