UD Wilmington lecture series open to the public

2:42 p.m., Feb. 17, 2005--The University of Delawares Academy of Lifelong Learning is hosting a lecture series this spring showcasing University faculty, Fridays, from 1-2:30 p.m., at Arsht Hall, 2800 Pennsylvania Avenue, Wilmington.
All the lectures, which will be given by eminent scholars on a variety of topics of current interest, are free and open to the public. Subjects range from renewable energy to the war on terror to preventing back pain. The lecture series is a cooperative effort between UDs Academy of Lifelong Learning and the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies program.
The schedule is as follows:
- Feb. 18--Magnetic Nanotechnology: Opening a New Frontier, George Hadjipanayis, chairperson, Department of Physics and Astronomy;
- Feb. 25--"Renewable Energy," John Byrne, Distinguished Professor of Public Policy and director of the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy;
- March 4--Delaware: World Center for Corporate Governance, Helen Bowers, associate professor of finance;
- March 11--Disaster Science, Havidan Rodriguez, director of UDs Disaster Research Center;
- March 18--National Security and the War on Terror, Stuart Kaufman, professor of political science and international relations.
- March 25--Marine Studies, Nancy Targett, interim dean of the College of Marine Studies;
- April 8--El Nino and La Nina, Ferris Webster, professor emeritus of marine studies;
- April 15--Preventing Lower Back Pain, Susan Hall, chairperson of the health and exercise sciences department;
- April 22--Damned Lies and Statistics, Joel Best, chairperson of the sociology department;
- April 29--The Slow Death of Europe, Mark Miller, Emma Smith Morris Professor of Political Science and International Relations; and
- May 6--The Changing Face of Television News, by Ralph Begleiter, Rosenberg Professor of Communication and distinguished journalist in residence.
