Student Activities Night draws hundreds

3:54 p.m., Feb. 8, 2005--The “Just U Do It!” Spring Student Activities Night, held Monday, Feb. 7, the first night of spring semester, drew more than 400 presenters and students.

Held from 7-9 p.m. in Multipurpose Rooms A and B at the Trabant University Center, the event showcased 82 of the more than 160 Registered Student Organizations on campus and gave attendees a chance to learn about greek life as well.

“[The evening] went very well and turnout was good,” Lalena Luna, program coordinator in the Office of Activities and Programs, said. On the front lines of the spring and fall semester activities nights for the past year, Luna added that turnout seems to grow each semester.

Set up in smorgasbord fashion, the event provides students interested in extracurricular activities with the opportunity to learn more about groups before joining.

Amanda Kaletsky (center) and Darrell McBride, members of the Golden Blues a capella group, talk to a potential recruit.
Presenters at last Monday’s event included several a cappella groups, HOLA, the Outing Club, the Women’s Leadership Organization and the Delaware Undergraduate Student Congress (DUSC), which set up an additional table for students to learn more about the Tsunami Relief Effort—a fund-raising campaign that kicks off this weekend with a benefit party on Saturday, Feb. 12.

UD’s Office of Activities and Programs sponsored the event.
