Nonalcoholic dance party kicks off semester

3:40 p.m., Feb. 9, 2005--Students will have the chance to have fun and help others at the Saturday, Feb. 12, “Hearts Around the World, Hearts from UD” dance party at the Stone Balloon.

Sponsored by Alternative Campus Events (ACE), the alcohol-free event is a fund-raiser for tsunami relief efforts. All proceeds will go to UD’s United Effort Fund, which will purchase fishing boats for people affected by the tsunami in South Asia and East Africa.

“It’s the first weekend on campus in the spring semester, and we want to get everyone out to have a good time, for a good cause,” ACE committee member Doug Sutton, AS ’05, said.

The 9 p.m. to midnight dance party will feature disc jockeys Eric Best, BE ’05, and Greg Aluise, AS ’05, who will play a mix of hip-hop, R&B, reggae and old school music. Partygoers can expect plenty of good food and nonalcoholic drink, donated by Cluck-U Chicken, Peace a Pizza and other area businesses. And, they can play in the suds, as foam will be dispensed from the ceiling throughout the evening.

Gift certificates donated by Caffé Gelato, Bennigan’s and Klondike Kate’s will be raffled off, and T-shirts will be given to the first 100 who arrive. Besides ACE, other participating student organizations include the American Chemical Society and the Tae Kwon Do Club.

ACE is asking for a $5 minimum donation at the door.
