10:24 a.m., Feb. 1, 2005--A roundup of recent news items about UD, its faculty, staff and alumni.

Tina Martin, head coach of the UD women’s basketball team, was quoted in a Feb. 1 Washington Post column concerning the fact that perennial Colonial Athletic Association powerhouse Old Dominion University is not a sure bet to win this year’s conference championship because of the strength demonstrated by the Fightin’ Blue Hens. "I really didn't think we'd be undefeated at this point because the league is so good," Martin said. "We have a lot of teams that can beat everybody. There's a lot of parity. I think it's going to be a heck of a conference race."

John Antil, associate professor of business administration, was quoted in a Feb. 1 MSNBC web site story about Super Bowl advertising.

Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in a Feb. 1 Denver Post story about the merger of Coors and Molson and the unusual board structure, which provides seats for members of both families. "For two family businesses to merge where family members are still on the board doesn't happen very often," Elson said.

ALUMNI

David Hoffman, who attended UD, has been named the assistant managing editor for foreign news at the Washington Post.
