Bob Shillinglaw, UD mens lacrosse coach, was quoted in a Jan. 31 News Journal story on a coaching clinic sponsored by U.S. Lacrosse that was held over the weekend at the Delaware Field House. Lacrosse in Delaware keeps growing more and more each year, Shillinglaw said. We have to supply quality coaches to try and keep up with that growth, and that's what this clinic is all about." UD benefactor Paul R. Jones was featured in the Jan. 30 Birmingham (Ala.) News, which ran a story on an exhibition drawn from the Paul R. Jones Collection that is now on view at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. Laurence Seidman, Chaplin Tyler Professor of Economics, was quoted in a Jan. 29 News Journal story on the fight over Social Security. The story noted concerns about steep government borrowing that might be required to finance reforms proposed by President George W. Bush. "All it takes is for holders of U.S. bonds around the world to say that we're irresponsible, Seidman told the newspaper. Then, they won't buy bonds unless there are higher interest rates." Valerie Hans, professor of sociology and criminal justice, was interviewed for a story that aired Jan. 27 on National Public Radios All Things Considered program about the retrial of former Tyco International executives who were accused of wrongdoing. The first trial ended in a hung jury, and Hans is an expert on jury trials. Work by John Byrne, Distinguished Professor of Public Policy and director of the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy, and other UD faculty members was noted in a Jan. 27 News Journal story about the case for solar power. Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in a Jan. 27 Palm Beach (Fla.)
