Student attends international conference

1:46 p.m., Dec. 6, 2004--Senior Kristin Wright was one of a select group of students from around the world who attended the 30th annual Business Today International Conference in New York City from Nov. 20-23. Business Today is a student organization that was started by publishing executive Steve Forbes during his time at Princeton University.

This year’s conference was the first time since the presidential election that executives from more than 70 Fortune 500 companies came together in an open forum to address how the federal government will tackle issues such as the interplay of business and politics, changing government regulations and corporate legislation, defining business-student relations in the 21st Century and outsourcing.

More than 175 students from 85 universities in 15 countries, including Argentina, Brazil, Germany, Russia, France, Mexico and Great Britain attended this year’s conference. They were chosen from a pool of more than 2,000 applicants.

Wright said she wanted to discuss campaign finance reforms, government business regulation, the political impact of terrorism and a contracting economy, and how foreign policy affects US businesses.

The mission of the organization is to bring together business leaders of the future with the business leaders of today in open dialogue and to give students the opportunity to engage these individuals face-to-face.

Wright said she thinks she was chosen to attend because of her experience studying abroad in Europe, dedication to learning about the financial services industry through her internship at Diamond State Financial Group, involvement in business organizations and “passion for international business.”

Wright has held board seats on two campus organizations, the Business Student Association and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
