Alumni stay in touch through satellite groups 2:21 p.m., Jan. 24, 2005--UD graduates who wish to stay in touch with fellow alumni can do so through various satellite alumni groups affiliated with the University. These satellite groups are centered on individual colleges and other special interests. Currently, there are eight active satellite groups:
Lauren Murray, AS 95, assistant director of alumni relations, said joining one of the groups creates opportunities for both social and career advancement. Not every college has an individual satellite group, but with enough student and alumni interest, starting one can be fairly easy, Murray said. Support from the college faculty and staff also can be helpful in starting the process. Each satellite group holds events throughout the year, giving alumni a chance to reunite with old friends or classmates and network with peers in their field of interest, Murray said. Although they are separate organizations, the Alumni Association and the satellite groups stay in close contact. According to Murray, the Alumni Association invites members from each satellite group to four meetings every year to discuss upcoming events and activities. It is important for the groups to have a close relationship with the Alumni Association, Murray said. The Alumni Association can offer assistance and resources for certain events held by the satellite groups, while each special group helps the Alumni Association to keep up with graduates lives and achievements.
