Delaware’s Mike Adams takes field for 49ers

Mike Adams
10:23 a.m., Dec. 16, 2004--With healthy defensive backs at a premium for the struggling San Francisco 49ers, former University of Delaware star Mike Adams has received playing time late in the season.

Adams, a co-captain on UD’s 2003 NCAA Division I-AA national championship teams, signed with the San Francisco as an undrafted free agent and spent much of the season on the practice squad.

Adams, who wears No. 20 for the 49ers, was activated several weeks ago and had an interception and two tackles in a 24-17 loss to the Miami Dolphins on Nov. 28. He also had two tackles in Sunday’s 31-28 victory over the Arizona Cardinals.

This Saturday, San Francisco will face the Washington Redskins.

Three other members of the 2003 title team are on National Football League practice squads. Quarterback Andy Hall has been on the practice squad of the Philadelphia Eagles, the team that drafted him, for the entire season. Offensive lineman Jason Nerys has been on several different practice squads and was most recently re-signed by the New York Jets. Defensive lineman Shawn Johnson, who was drafted by the Oakland Raiders and spent much of the season on the practice squad of the Tennessee Titans, is now on the practice squad of the Miami Dolphins.
