State 4-H’ers convene for leaders’ forum

Delaware Army National Guard Col. Willie G. Barnes addresses state 4-H leaders.
3:47 p.m., Feb. 2, 2005--More than 100 Delaware 4-H leaders and staff gathered at Townsend Hall Jan. 15 for workshops on how expand 4-H programs in the state.

Conference keynote speakers included David Henderson, vice president of communications at the National 4-H Council, and Delaware Army National Guard Col. Willie G. Barnes, who spoke about a new partnership Delaware 4-H is forming with the military.

Six 4-H leaders won Salute to Excellence awards. Three leaders received Volunteer of the Year awards, and three leaders received Lifetime Volunteer awards. There was one leader from each county in both categories. New Castle County’s winners were Tracey McCracken and Brenda Wiedenmann.

The Mid Del Foundation presented organizers of new 4-H clubs with start-up kits that included a gavel, a set of flags and a 4-H pledge banner.
