UD women's tennis team splits this week's matches

9:55 a.m., Oct. 3, 2003--The University of Delaware women’s tennis team split a pair of matches this week, blanking West Chester University 7-0 on Tuesday then falling to Villanova University by the same score on Thursday.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens will take nine days off before returning to action Oct. 11 at LaSalle University in Philadelphia.

Against West Chester, UD sophomore Marissa Singer won at No. 1 singles, freshman Liz Perlow won at No. 2, freshman Sari Shuster won at No. 3, freshman Jamie deGraffenreid won at No. 4 and sophomore Stephanie Riddle won at No. 5. Senior Beth Principe received a win be default at No. 6 singles.

The UD doubles teams of Perlow and Shuster at No. 1 and Singer and Principe at No. 2 also were victorious. Delaware's No. 3 doubles team of Jen Lamberton and deGraffenreid won by default.

Against Villanova, two of the singles matches went to the wire. UD’s Perlow dropped a 5-7, 6-1, 10-6 verdict at No. 2, and Principe fell 6-2, 1-6, 10-4 at No. 5.

The Hens' closest match in doubles came at the No. 1 spot where Perlow and Shuster dropped an 8-6 decision.
