UD women’s soccer battles to tie with ECU

1:40 p.m., Sept. 8, 2003--The University of Delaware women’s soccer team battled to a 1-1 double overtime tie against East Carolina University in the second game of the University of North Carolina Charlotte Tournament on Sunday afternoon.

In the opening game of the tournament, the Fightin’ Blue Hens fell 3-1 to host UNC Charlotte.

UD will return to action at 5 p.m., Friday, Sept. 12, against North Carolina State University in the George Mason University Tournament at Fairfax, Va.

In the game against East Carolina, UD senior Francesca Termini staked the Hens to a 1-0 lead, scoring on an assist from Caryn Blood at 12:39 of the first half. The goal was Termini's fourth of the 2003 season and the 21st of her career.

East Carolina retaliated with one second remaining in the first half, evening the score at 1-1 on a goal by Rachelle Cabeceiras.

Both teams were scoreless for the second half and both of the subsequent overtime periods.

UD goalkeeper Lindsay Shover notched five saves in the 110-minute contest.

Against UNC Charlotte, Termini scored the lone UD goal on an assist from sophomore Christina Martinik at 43:05.

In goal, UD’s Shover posted four saves.
