Delaware women’s soccer seeks second win Sept. 2

1:10 p.m., Sep. 2, 2003--The University of Delaware women’s soccer team earned a season-opening 4-0 victory over St. Joseph’s University on Friday, Aug. 29, at the Delaware Mini-Stadium.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens will go after their second victory when they travel to the University of Maryland Baltimore County for a game Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 2.

Against St. Joseph’s, UD senior Francesca Termini scored a pair of goals and became only the fifth player in Delaware women's soccer history to score 20 career goals.

Termini opened the scoring just over 15 minutes into the game as she beat Hawks' goalkeeper Nicole DiEnna in a one on one situation for the only goal of the first half.

The Hens sealed the victory with three goals in the second half. Senior tri-captain Caryn Blood tallied the first goal of the second half, tapping her own rebound into the net at 52:20. Termini scored her second goal by collecting her own shot off the post and putting it past the goalkeeper just five minutes later. Sophomore Christina Martinik finished off the scoring with her first career goal at 73:11.

UD goalkeeper Lindsay Shover recorded her seventh career shutout and had four saves.
