UD women’s lacrosse team upends Penn State in OT

10:02 a.m., May 10, 2004--The University of Delaware women’s lacrosse team closed its season with an 11-10 victory over 17th ranked Penn State on Saturday afternoon at Rullo Stadium.

Senior attack Michelle Campolettano scored the game-winning goal for the Fightin’ Blue Hens with 1:35 left in overtime, finding the net after receiving a pass from junior midfielder Diana Hall. With the win, UD improved to 6-10.

Freshman attack Jenny Diana, a second team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection, led the Hens with three goals while sophomore Kristin Cellucci had two.

Diana finished the season as the team leader in points, with 38 goals and six assists. It is the first time a freshman has led the team in scoring since UD all-time scoring leader Karen Emas did so in 1981.

Penn State opened the scoring in overtime to take a 10-9 lead. UD rallied to tie on a goal by junior Laura Libertini off an assist from senior Shannon Kron, and then Campolettano scored the winner.

UD goalkeeper Patrice Hughes had 11 saves in nearly 48 minutes of action in relief of starter Lauren Burtch.
