UD women’s lacrosse falls to Towson in CAA play

Senior Shannon Kron had two goals against Towson.
10:14 a.m., March 29, 2004--The University of Delaware women’s lacrosse team fell 9-6 to Towson University in a Colonial Athletic Association contest on Sunday afternoon at Minnigan Stadium in Towson.

With the loss, the Fightin’ Blue Hens fell to 2-5.

UD will return to action with a game at Princeton University at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 30.

The Hens will then play a CAA game against Drexel University at 7 p.m., Friday, April 2, at Rullo Stadium.

In Sunday’s game, UD freshman Jenny Diana and senior Shannon Kron scored two goals apiece.

Towson opened the game with scores by Shannon Witzel and Caitlin Marshall in the first eight minutes of action. UD senior attack Michelle Campolettano got the Hens on the scoreboard at 21:00 but Towson’s Amy Middleton found the net at 19:17 to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead.

UD tied the game with 14:27 to go in the first half on goals by Diana and Kron, then Towson rattled off four straight goals to take a 7-4 lead into halftime.

Towson opened the second half with two scores to take its largest lead of the game, 9-4, with 20:50 to play. Diana and senior attack Becky Zane scored the final two UD goals.

UD sophomore goalkeeper Patrice Hughes had eight saves.
