Blue Hen women’s lacrosse team defeats Denver 15-7

Michelle Campolettano scored five goals in UD’s victory over Denver.
10:26 a.m., March 22, 2004--Senior attack Michelle Campolettano scored five goals to lead the University of Delaware women’s lacrosse team to a 15-7 victory over the University of Denver on Sunday afternoon at Rullo Stadium.

Also for the Fightin’ Blue Hens, freshman midfielder Jenny Diana had three goals and two assists and senior attack Shannon Kron had two goals and three assists.

With the victory, UD improved to 2-3 on the season. The Hens will host No. 14-ranked Northwestern University in a game at 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 24, at Rullo Stadium.

In Sunday’s action, Denver jumped out to an early 3-1 lead, but UD scored four goals and reached halftime with a 5-4 lead.

UD carried the play in the second half, opening with back-to-back goals by Diana and Campolettano.

Denver’s Stephanie Greenlees scored to cut the UD lead to 7-5 but Campolettano scored two consecutive goals to put the game out of reach.

Campolettano's five goals are the most by a Hen in a single game since Corinne Shuck scored six against Ohio State University on March 25, 2002.

UD sophomore Megan Hager scored two goals and had one assist, and junior Becky Rausa scored two goals.

Patience Baldwin and Greenlees each scored a pair of goals, and Kate Broderick scored one goal and had three assists for Denver.

UD sophomore goalkeeper Patrice Hughes picked up her second win of the season. She had five saves.

UD outshot Denver 44-16 to set a Rullo Stadium record for shots in a game.
