UD women’s lacrosse team opens season with win 10:46 a.m., March 1, 2004--The University of Delaware women’s lacrosse team opened its season with a win, defeating host Mount St. Mary’s College 11-7 on Saturday afternoon in Emmitsburg, Md. The Fightin’ Blue Hens will host the University of Pennsylvania in the home opener at 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 3, at Rullo Stadium. In Saturday’s victory, Erin Edell had three goals and Shannon Kron, Michelle Campolettano and Jenny Diana had two each to lead the Hens. Edell scored twice as the Hens jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first 9:50 and a 4-1 advantage at halftime. UD blew the game open with four goals in a span of 2:14 in the second half to take a commanding 9-3 lead. Kron, a senior, scored both of her goals in that run. UD sophomore Patrice Hughes picked up the win, making eight saves. UD outshot Mount St. Mary's 32-20 and had a 28-14 advantage in ground balls. To learn how to subscribe to UDaily, click here. |
