UD womens lacrosse team adds Kahoe to coaching staff 11:04 a.m., Dec. 4, 2003--Alex Kahoe, a former All-American goalkeeper at the University of Maryland and assistant coach at the University of Pennsylvania, has been named an assistant coach for the University of Delaware women's lacrosse squad, Fightin Blue Hens Head Coach Denise Wescott has announced. Kahoe replaces Kristen Sander, who took Kahoe's position at Penn after three seasons on the UD staff. A 2000 Maryland graduate with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and sociology, Kahoe began her coaching career at her alma mater, serving as an assistant to head coach Cathy Timchal from August 2000 until August 2002. The Terrapins won their seventh straight national title in 2001 and advanced to the national quarterfinals in 2002. Kahoe then moved to Penn, where she served as an assistant coach under Karen Brower for the 2003 season. The Quakers posted a record of 6-10. While a student at Maryland, Kahoe served as a technical representative for STX for four years and worked in the sports marketing office for two years. Upon graduation, she worked as a field marketing representative and sales representative for Black & Decker for two years, worked as a camp supervisor for the All American Lacrosse Camp, was an executive assistant for the Women's Lacrosse.com web site and was owner, director and coach for the Ultimate Goal Lacrosse Club team. Kahoe enjoyed an outstanding career at Maryland, which won five straight NCAA Division I national titles from 1996 to 2000. She was a three-time team captain, earned All-American honors in 1998, 1999 and 2000, and was the NCAA Goalie of the Year her final two seasons. While a student at Maryland, she also was a three-year member of the Athletic Council, served on the Student Athlete Advisory Council and was a student member of the NCAA Re-Certification Committee. Still an active player, she has been a member of the USA National Lacrosse Team since 1997 and has played with the Toyota Lacrosse Team since 2000. Delaware, coming off a 7-9 record in 2003, will open the 2004 season Feb. 28 at Mount St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg, Md. The Hens will host Penn March 3 at Rullo Stadium.
