Urgent notice for Windows System users

4:50 p.m., July 29, 2003--According to IT-User Services, a serious security vulnerability has recently been detected in more than a thousand computer systems on campus that are running Microsoft Windows operating systems. Failure to apply system updates could result in a malicious person taking complete and total control of your system.

IT-User Services Director Leila Lyons urges Windows users to update their operating systems immediately to deal with this security vulnerability by following the instructions at [http://www.udel.edu/security/secms.html] under “Windows Critical Updates.”

Windows XP and Windows 2000 users are advised that they also should set up automatic operating system updates by visiting [http://www.udel.edu/topics/windowsxp/XPupdate.html].
