Teaching, Learning, Technology Institute kicks off Jan. 7

11:29 a.m., Dec. 17, 2003--UD’s Winter Teaching, Learning and Technology Institute opens Wednesday, Jan. 7, in Room 116 of the Willard Hall Education Building with a day of pre-institute events, including a faculty showcase, lunch and poster session, instructional grant workshop and door prizes.

Kickoff events include:

  • 8:30-9 a.m.—Continental breakfast and registration
  • 9 a.m.-noon—Faculty showcase
  • Noon-1:30 p.m.—Lunch and poster session
  • 1:30-3:30 p.m.—Instructional grant workshop

The showcase, featuring faculty who have used instructional grants in the past, includes:

  • Persephone Braham, assistant professor of foreign languages and literatures, SPAN 326—“Latin American Culture and Civilization”;
  • Robert Ketcham, laboratory coordinator in biological sciences, “Compound Microscope Simulation”;
  • Elizabeth Orsega-Smith, assistant professor of health and exercise sciences, “Wellness into the 21st Century”;
  • Christopher Penna, assistant professor of English, “Using WebCT for Freshman English”;
  • Louis Rossi and John Pelesko, assistant professors of mathematical sciences, “Integrated Laboratory Investigations in Math 512: Mathematical Modeling”; and
  • Mark Stanton, associate professor of psychology, “Online Testing.”

The mid-day poster session will give faculty the opportunity to interact and gain practical advice about tools used and strategies tried. Support staff will be on hand to answer questions about available resources.

Faculty can register for the entire Jan. 7 kickoff, or for individual events, by calling 831-8445 or e-mailing [usered-info@udel.edu]. Faculty are asked to register no later than Monday, Jan. 5.

The Winter Teaching, Learning and Technology Institute allows faculty to choose from more than 28 offerings designed to help them teach more effectively with technology, learn various WebCT features, explore new software and be inspired by colleagues.
