And the Employee Wellness winners are...

2:11 p.m., June 23, 2004--To encourage full-time employees to use up their 50 Wellness Dollars by the end of UD’s fiscal year, the Employee Wellness Center held a prize drawing from the names of individuals who had exhausted their Wellness Dollars by June 15. From a pool of 500 employees, three winners were chosen.

Susan Campbell, supervisor of lab services for biological sciences, won dinner for two at the Blue & Gold Club.

Gonzalo Arce, chairperson of the electrical and computer engineering department, won a $50 gift certificate to the UD Bookstore.

Lawrence Marceau, associate professor of foreign languages and literatures, won a $75 gift certificate to the Back Burner Restaurant in Hockessin.

As of July 1, UD’s full-time employees each are allocated another 50 Wellness Dollars for use during UD’s 2004-05 fiscal year. Wellness Dollars can be used to pay for a wide range of programs, including noontime lectures, self-paced activity challenges, health screenings, individual counseling and e-mail- and web-based programs.

“This is a wonderful University benefit,” Marianne Carter, director of the employee wellness program, said. “Your health is your most important asset, and we strive to provide users of our services with knowledge and skills they can use to maintain good health."

During the 2003-04 fiscal year, more than 1,700 employees participated in one or more of the following:

  • Eleven noontime lectures;
  • Fifteen health screenings;
  • Four large-scale, incentive-based behavior change programs;
  • Two awareness activities;
  • Three online programs;
  • An e-mail program;
  • A disease prevention activity; and
  • Ninety-four individual consultations for fitness and nutrition.
