UD volleyballs Murphy named to All-CAA team
10:05 a.m.., Nov. 21, 2003--University of Delaware junior volleyball player Valerie Murphy has been selected to the 2003 All-Colonial Athletic Association second team.
Murphy led the Fightin Blue Hens in kills for the second consecutive season, posting 378, and had a hitting percentage of .284. She led the team in blocks with 89 and had 72 digs, 21 service aces and 13 assists.
Murphy played in all 103 games this season and has now played in 211 consecutive games, dating back to the start of the 2002 season.
Her 3.67 kills per game in 2003 ties her for second in UD volleyball history for single season kills per game average with former teammate Cameo Neeman.
Murphy also has averaged 2.96 kills per game over her career, which is fourth best in UD volleyball history.
Murphy becomes the second Blue Hen to garner CAA honors, as Neeman was a second-team selection as a senior in 2001.
