Blue Hen volleyball falls 3-1 to Georgetown

9:30 a.m., Oct. 1, 2003--The Georgetown University volleyball team defeated the University of Delaware 3-1 on Tuesday at McDonough Gym in Washington, D.C.

Georgetown captured the first game of the match 30-25 before the Fightin’ Blue Hens rallied to win the second game 30-22.

The Hoyas came out of the break and defeated the Hens in two straight games, a 30-22 loss in game three and a 31-29 loss in game four, to close out the match.

Delaware junior Valerie Murphy notched 23 kills and sophomore Niecy Taylor added 13.

Additionally, senior Allison Hunter had 49 assists while junior Taylor Govaars had 14 digs and freshman Claire McCormack posted 13.

Delaware fell to 5-8 and lost to the Hoyas for the fourth straight time. The last time the Blue Hens defeated Georgetown was in 1986.

Delaware will return to action Friday when they travel to Williamsburg, Va., to take on Colonial Athletic Association rival the College of William & Mary. Match time is 7 p.m.

The Tribe is 7-6 overall and 1-0 in conference.
