Blue Hen track teams win Delaware Invitational 10:54 a.m., May 3, 2004--The University of Delaware track and field teams both captured the Division I team titles in the seasons second Delaware Invitational held Saturday at the Delaware Mini-Stadium. In mens competition, the Fightin Blue Hens had 10 first-place finishes and scored 309 points, well ahead of Towson (162) and Maryland (121) in the team standings. The UD women had 11 individual first-place finishes and scored 289 points. Towson (263) finished second and Maryland (19) took third place. The UD women had a double winner as freshman Rachel Young captured the shot put with a toss of 44 feet, 7-1/2 inches and the hammer with a throw of 131 feet, 3 inches. She also finished second in the discus. Also capturing titles for the UD women were Daniella Price in the 100 meters (12.84), Tyechia Smith in the 200 meters (25.57), Brittany Wright in the 400 meters (58.96), Sari Weissbard in the 1,500 meters (5:03.65), Vicki Hufnagel in the 100-meter hurdles (15.63), Rebecca Seery in the 400-meter hurdles (1:10.24), Kristen Collins in the high jump (5-1), Casey Bennett in the pole vault (12-6) and Stephanie Cronk in the discus (128-1 1/2). The UD men had two double winners as Jerome Holder captured the 200 meters (23.40) and 100-meter hurdles (14.78) and Mike Yost took the discus (50 feet, 2-1/2 inches) and hammer (166 feet, 4-1/2 inches). Also winning for Delaware were Brad Dodson in the 1,500 meters (4:03.81), Ryan McGlensey in the 400-meter hurdles (57.36), Kevin DuPrey in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:03.53) and Scott Armstrong in the javelin (170-1 1/2).
