Hen tennis teams sweep Towson in CAA play

UD’s John Tully won in both singles and doubles as the Hens defeated Towson.
9:13 a.m., April 8, 2004--The University of Delaware tennis teams earned their first Colonial Athletic Association victories of the season with a 6-1, 6-1 sweep over host Towson University on Wednesday afternoon.

The UD men won five of the six singles matches and swept the three doubles matches for the sixth point, improving to 9-8 overall and 1-1 in the CAA

The UD women won five of the six singles matches and two of the three doubles matches, improving to 6-8 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

In the men’s singles competition, the Fightin’ Blue Hens got wins from John Tully at No. 1, Sanjay Khindri at No. 2, Adam Liebman at No. 3, Josh Ditman at No. 4 and Ari Zweig at No. 5. Tully improved to 15-6 on the season while Liebman and Ditman each captured their 10th singles victories.

In doubles play, the teams of Tully and Khindri, Ditman and Zweig and Liebman and Philip Wayne recorded victories.

In the women's singles competition, the Hens got wins from Sari Shuster at No. 1, Liz Perlow at No. 2, Jamie deGraffenreid at No. 4, Beth Principe at No. 5 and Stefanie Riddle at No. 6. Riddle and Shuster both won their 11th singles matches of the season, with Shuster defeating Sarah Dumansky, the daughter of former UD men's standout Jeff Dumansky,.

In doubles, UD’s No. 1 team of Shuster and deGraffenreid and No. 3 team of Singer and Perlow each won their matches.

Both UD teams will host CAA rival Hofstra University beginning at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 10, at the Delaware Field House Courts.
