Delaware tennis teams earn split with Lafayette

12:50 p.m., March 9, 2004--The host University of Delaware split a pair of tennis matches with Lafayette College on Monday afternoon, with the Fightin’ Blue Hen men winning 5-2 and the women losing 6-1.

In the men's match, UD got singles victories from John Tully at No. 2, Adam Liebman at No. 3, Josh Ditman at No. 4 and Dustin Lewis at No. 5. Tully improved to a team-best 13-3 on the 2003-04 season.

Lafayette got singles wins from Andrew Mott at No. 1 and Craig Helstowski at No. 6.

UD won the doubles point as the No. 1 team of Sanjay Khindri and Tully defeated Brett Warren and Helstowski 9-7 and the No. 3 team of Liebman and Ditman defeated John Zazzu and Peter Titus 8-3.

Lafayette dominated the women's match, winning each of the first five singles matches and the double point.

UD got its lone wins at No. 6 singles, where Stef Riddle posted an 8-1 win over Stephanie Rosman, and at No. 1 doubles, where Sari Shuster and Jamie deGraffenreid teamed for an 8-3 win over Lafayette's Chez Saricas and Meghan Fitzgerald.

The matches began outdoors at the Delaware Field House courts but were completed indoors due to inclement weather.
