Online education focus of April 22 videoconference 11:35 a.m., April 15, 2004--Untangling the Web: Making Online Teaching and Learning Accessible, a live telecast via satellite from the University of Maryland, will be available for viewing from 2:30-4 p.m., Thursday, April 22, in 304 Pearson Hall, Studio C. The program also will be broadcast simultaneously on UDTV Channel 48. Among the issues to be discussed are how students with disabilities are navigating the web and how inaccessible course content affects the work of faculty and staff. The moderated panel discussion will consider the implications of accessibility for online education and suggest ways that faculty and staff can work together to address major issues. Ensuring that online education is fully accessible presents a major challenge for faculty and staff in higher education. Faculty members who teach online often find themselves unsure about the best way to help students who have problems accessing course material online. Though aimed particularly at faculty and staff in higher education, anyone affected by accessibility in the online environment or interested in understanding the critical issues will benefit from participating. The telecast is sponsored by IT-User Services, UDs Center for Teaching Effectiveness, UD Online, UDs Americans with Disabilities Act Office and the University of Delaware Library. Members of the UD community with a valid UD ID may register for this class. Online registration requires a valid UD e-mail address. To register online, visit [www.udel.edu/learn/usered/].
